May 2. A pair of House Wrens took possession of the box near the front door. Another male (pair?) was driven off and was singing most of morning across the street. May 3. Beautiful warm day. House wrens building. Russet-backed Thrush singing and calling near house. May 4. Went with ladies to Inverness on 8:30 a.m. ferry to San Rafael once for shore birds Stopped occasionally - once among Redwoods on stream, once near willows, once near marsh, near head of bay etc. Lunched in canyon at Inverness then drove up shore of Tomales Bay. Found following birds: Eared Grebe (1) Tomales Bay Farallone Cormorant " " Baird " " Calif. Brown Pelican (2) " " Great Blue Herons (20+) " several. Black-crowned Night Heron 4 thousand spit. Anthony Green Heron (1) - marsh. Surf Scoter (1 male, 4 females) Tomales bay) White-winged Gester (young males, females) Bengards (6+) ? Cooper Hawk (1) Tomales Bay. Red-tailed Hawk (1) stopping tail to star. ? Sparrow Hawk (1), morning - Valley Quail (several) Cot (1) marsh - Mrs. Brackett- Long-billed Dovelcher (2) Tomales Bay. Killdeer (6+) marsh.
