1928 Apr. 6 Easter Sunday - Beautiful warm clear day. Went into woods for an hour in full plumage. after breakfast Many Golden-cr. & Intermediate Sparrows, in flock, both singing. Fox Sparrow Sang in early morning near pool. In woods I found also Hermit Thrush, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Audubon & Townsend Warblers (single ones) singing. Two male Tolmie Warblers, one above Mosswood Rd. one in ravine below end of Mosswood Rd - both in full song. Many Lutescent & Paleolated Warblers - later mating. a pair of Willow Woodpeckers, cutting hole in dead oak stub. An Ash-throated Flycatcher was seen clearly in oak tree E. of house. Apr. 9. Colder. Cloudy. Many Golden-cr. & Intermediate Sparrows in oaks. Apr. 10. Fox sp., Hermit Thrush, " " " " here. Apr. 12 Causing Whio song again good pair's behavior. W. Grebes. Br. Cormorant, Bon Gulls, W (few) Hermit thrush singing Line-Blancs w. many Calif. Gulls on bay in S. m. Apr. 13, 14 Cool w. R-c. Kinglet singing. Cutting road across the canyon. Apr. Sleams - shovel workers as much noise I cannot hear birds. Works from 7 a. m. to 12 midnight. Allu hummers fill nest. Whigs featured. Apr. 15. Cool. Cloudy; G-c. Sparrows singing - only winter bird heard. Apr. 18. Went to Marin Co. with class. Failed to meet at time appointed and had tour out between S. Quentin & San Rafael so did not do what we planned. A beautiful clear fresh day. Went up Lagunitas Creek where we had lunch. two Phoenix Lake Birds: (on bay: 8-10 W. Grebes. Glaucous-winged, Ring-billed, Western & Bonaparte gulls, Forster Tern(1), Farallon Cormorants, 1 White-winged Scoter - (10) San Quentin St. 1 Curlew & Gulls. 5-8 jaysbirds, too far out to identify - Mallard Duck Red-tailed Hawk - being tormented by Crows.
