Sept. 24. Mrs. Bogle reported 3 Black-throated Grey Warblers in Claremont Canyon.
Mr. Bryant ' 2 Ruby-crowned Kinglets on lower campus.
Sept. 26 - Cloudy
Sept. 27 - A shower at night.
Sept. 28 - Cleared before noon - A little north wind - D. Bryant reported G.C. Sparrow.
Sept. 29 - Beautiful day - just enough north wind to clear air.
Sept. 30. North winds - very clear. Heard Snail catcher in Sunny Gulch;
8250 Golden-crowned Sparrow. Heard R.C. Knight near house.
Oct. 1. Went to Mt. Diablo Country Club with Prof. Ritter to watch
California Woodpeckers. Found them very abundant though
many had been shot by owner of an almond orchard where they
had eaten the almonds. Shells and hulls were left hanging
in the tree but nuts had been eaten. Most of oaks (Coast
and Valley Live Oaks) had holes in bark, some holes still
occupied by wormy acorns. A few birds were found storing
fresh acorns. Many flickers also timbre. Saw flock
of Intermediate Sparrows and heard them sing. Three kill-
deers flew over. Other Birds - Meadow Larks, Towhees. Song
Sparrows, Blue Jays, Robins - 2 Turkey Vultures
A few warblers were heard but
not identified. A little north wind - warm. Heard Audubon W?
Oct. 2. Warm - Clear. Very little wind. Two Ruby-crowned Kinglets
and Intermediate and Golden-crowned Sparrows in canyon.
Thought I heard a chip of Audubon Warbler.
