1927 Swallows, hundreds of Sandpipers and a few Killdeer, many meadow larks and huge flocks of Blackbirds in the marshes between Alviso and Mt. Eden. Also 1 Golden Pheasant near Brannberg. Very warm. Sept. 2-8 - Warm, sunny weather. Heard Russet-backed Thrush and Lutescent Warble, every day. Sept. 8. Drove down to Boulder Creek - Warm, beautiful day - Sept. 9. Chilly. Clouds in morning, gusty wind. Summers in p.m. Very few birds - Juncos, Goldfinches, Rt-b-titmouse, Coast Jay- Sept. 10. Clear, warmer. Drove back to Berkeley. Sept. 11. Warm. Sept. 12. Saw W Flycatcher. Sept. 13. Mrs. Blake reported W. Flycatcher and Olive-sided Flycatchers in her garden. Screech Owls about every night near our house. Sept. 14. Heard Lutescent Warblers and Tanager. Song Sparrow, Thrasher and Virgo's were singing. Red-tailed Hawks soaring near Eucalyptus trees across canyon. Sept. 17. Mrs. Nuria picked up dead Vance Swift - Alaska Yellows W U.S.F. Sept. 20. Tanagers still about - dull plumage. Beautiful weather. Titmouse Sept. 21 and Wrentit heard singing - Also Thrasher & Virgo's were Russet-backed Thrushes were calling below house. Lutescent Warblers are numerous and calling loudly. Sept. 21. Many Crowded Sparrows in N. Berkeley, Santa Barbara Rd. Delutrovidates, thrush. Still warm - Sept. 22. Warm, young warblers - lutescent - Sept. 23. Yellow Warblers and Virgos? - gray backs, light line through eye, white breasts -- Mrs. Blake reported 2 young Cedar Waxwings in her garden.
