5-18-31 Shrub. Fl. Val-Mont. Cult. [illegible] has all the look of Cerasus and would be thought to be Prunus laurocerasus L. BM CP. 372: Cerasus - like Cotone & except that love have not the brown glandulose by (Cote) tho they have a strong peach-pit odor if crushed when young} and the very short calyx lobes are not 3-toothed as done (BM CP.) Calyx white, its lobes abruptly turned up- ward into a stiff short beak, thickened at the point where turned upward. Lvs. to 7x3 in., petioles less than sharp to touch 1/2 in., teeth very loss, distant on margin slightly revolute. Duff as long as lvs or almost. Petals about 5mm long. Fl. with spreading stamens 1/2 in wide, odorless. Ovules 3. 5-18-31 Lithospermum purpureo-caeruleum L. Cote II 589, Box 222, BVH 322 Fl. Cult. Val-Mont. Almost surely this (Certainly this if in Cote) But lowest bracts (to 2 in.) are very little shorter than upper lvs vs several flower bracts (at least) are longer than fls (Cote suggests not, but BVH says yes) (see 6-9-31) [* Cult = found in flower bed at V-M but blooms exactly like spec. found later wild] 5-18-31 Berteroa Fl.
