9-18-31 hairs except sometimes at very base, surface quite glabrous. Infla compact corymb of about 6 bunchles (about ? cm long) with 2-3 fls. Calyx 5 mm high; sepals lance- late, thickeat tip vs blunt, glabrous. Petals white (or very faintly tinged pinkish), 10 mm long, hence ex- ceeding sepals by ? mm, acute, almost uncoronate, stamens attached 2 mm above base. Stamens shorter than petals. Anthers red-yellow in bud but dark later. Fl. 5-merous. Fl-tranch-like style one except infl. instead (racette?) of oval (? now) a few be beneath, appearing alt. because 10 pairs ha fallen. Notice: Cota, Bor & SVH. ? Line in BMQC might be S?x? S. speciosum Bieb. BMGER 320, SVHI 322 (seem unlikely on grounds of pubescence) or S. atloriferum Ame? BMGP 320, SVH F 145. But not SVH F 145 says S. populiiflora Pallas (not desc. in other manuals) is established at Aigle. SVH I 603 9-18-31 ? Melampyrum pratense L. Cote III 57, Bor 2 39, B04 354 Fl. Aigle edge, woods behind Chateau. Slender annuals to 1 ft high, with long spreading, upward curved branches see Fig 104 SVH I 599, somewhat pub. with short downward curved hairs sep. on 2 sides. Long very short petioled (almost sessile), lanceolate ? to 17 mm wide. Bracts green, the lower ones like br., the superiors deeply cut into 5 narrow sharp teeth.
