P.A. Kelly 1985 10 Journal Then at X89 site 3 set 7 traps among boulders, at the base of the hill. Found fresh carnivore scat. Hiked up to the 2 big rock outcrops at the top of the hill. Very little woodrat sign and no fresh sign. Saw a & Mule Deer, hhowever as well as some Green-tailed Towhees. Around 5pm checked all traps to release 3 Golden-mantled Ground Squirrels, 1 at X89 and 2 at U.Spring. Checked traps again at 10pm. [It's great to have a car on this trip (as opposed to previous ones) even if it's a gas-guzzling Mercury Comet V8]. Got 2 rats at the Upper Spring: # 2174 & right side of rockslide # 2177 & (loc) left " " " So at least these 2 have survived the winter. Didn't check Rockslide or X89. June 3 Got up at 5:45 am. Beautiful sunny morning. Checked all traps: U.Spring: # 2174 again r. side # 2176 & l. side l. Spring: fge & # 2179 (410g) toe 0014 Rockslide: Nothing X89 : Nothing Closed all traps for day to minimize
