P.A. Kelly 1985 Journal June 2 Sagersen Creek Field Station, Nevada Co., CA Left Berkeley at 7:30 am and arrived at the Field Station at 11:30 am after stopping for breakfast in Auburn. Driving conditions were fairly good except for occasional light mist showers in the coast range and in the Sierra. Mike Yoder-Williams was away so I was fixed up with cabin and lab space by Kimberley (?) (working on Mike Morrison's Bird Study. Started setting traps after I had un loaded everything. There was a light snow fall last night but it thawed rapidly. First went to the Upper & Lower Spring Sites - lots of Ashen in leaf and lots of woodrat sign. Set 10 traps (chipmunk Size, 16") at U. Spring & 5 at L. Spring. Also lots of Marmot droppings on the rockfiles as well as Beaver Sign (chewed Aspen) at L. Spring. Then saw my first yellow-bellied Marmot near Leofold's Cabin. Also some Douglas Squirrels around. Went on to the "Rockslide" Site, found no fresh woodrat sign throughout the area, but fresh Beaver sign was everywhere. Set 3 traps in hope of catching vagrants.
