11 Daedalea Stereoides Fries p.98.[82] Type in San jose dersted. Dodge no 4317 Parque Bolivav Sanjose 1120 m Sept 14, 1929. Fructifications growing from stump cut off at surface of soil and more or less covered with mud. Caespitose [habit of Tremellodendron pallidum] Fructifications up to 2.5cm tall, dirty white. Context hygrophanous spongy becoming very thin at tips, flabelliform branching. wavy white compact Hymenium confined to lower side, and not on the stipe, continuous. Apparently never strictly daedaloid, but fruiting surface consisting of irregular irpiciform plates and teeth pushing up the smooth hymenium [Hence not to be placed in Polyporaceae, seems to be a distinct genus as a merismatoid Phlebia or analogous to Polyporus dichrous of Polyporaceae. Related sp. might be found in tropical sp. of Irpex but quite distinct from polyporoid Irpex of temperate regions.] Context of coarse loosely woven hyphae 2-4µ basidia 4 spored clavate 17-18 x 4-5µ sterigmata long 4-5µ spores hyaline 4-6 x 3-4µ

Armillaria alphitophylla Berk 1860 Pileus convex expanded with a slight depression 4.5 cm in diameter surface moist to slightly glutinous but not viscid dotted with darker pyramidal groups of hairs, suggesting a Lepista, bone brown to olive brown, lighter on disc; flesh thin white disappearing at margin which is white appendiculate otherwise smooth; lamellae white slightly ventricose synuate [illegible] with decurrent tooth thick waxy distant; stipe cartilaginous hollow stuffed white even with slightly bulbous base silky slightly sulcate above, no trace of annulus Approximates Hygrophorus variolosus and Armillaria alphitophylla except stipe hollow stuffed and lamellae not branched. 14 Boletinus or new genus See painting Dense rainforest on decaying leaves of Melastomaceae about 750 m on southern bank of Rio Pejivalle about 80 m above river, Cartago Province, Costa Rica Sept 26. Pileus hemispheric between orange rufous and Sanford Brown surface dry dull, flesh very thin, practically membranous hymenium merulioid about 14 principal radiating ridges with very roughly polygonal cavities between, pelucid white delicate. Stipe pelucid white above bay to chestnut below smooth even, No trace of veils
