- June 12 - Got an early start this morning and had a pretty hard day of it as it began to rain about 9 o'clock and we had several rapids to portage around. After dinner we made a portage of about a mile and a half and I caught a gosling in a beaver pond on the way down. We made camp at the river at 6 o'clock - June 13 - Brought the canoe down this morning and started on again. The river was comparatively smooth for a ways and we had easy going until we came to a log jam below which we found easy going again. There were lots of bear and deer signs along the river but we didn't stop to hunt. We saw 4 deer during the morning. We reached a 30 ft. water fall about noon and made a short portage and got to salt water but we didn't know it until we had gone a couple of miles. We went
