NE of Liberty, a short distance NE of a wood saw mill, the black shale rests on the fossiliferous bed which is often found at top of the Madison beds, but cut Ciona Columnaria's alveolata and Orthis tri- furcata just beneath the Black Shale. 207 (1007) LS About 2¾ mi. E of Liberty. The Black shale rests directly on the Madison beds. 67 206. (996) LS. About 2 miles N.E. of Liberty up a gully in the north side of the road, where the Liberty-Huntenville road first approaches the river going east. The Black Shale rests direct- ly on the Madison beds. A thin bed in the Madi- nian 15 feet below the Black Shale, contains numerous Lower Silurian fossils.
