Lunforth's garden in N. Berkeley, heard Russet-backed Thrush distinctly several times. Fog on bay in late afternoon with cooler temperature. Apr. 26. Took Bird Class to Ross by way of San Quentin. Foggy and chilly all day in Berkeley. Cleared at noon in Ross but rather windy. Birds rather scarce - except shore birds near S. Quentin where Sandpipers were present in very large flocks (1000+) - most of them Western but a few Redbacks in full plumage. Got very near to them so we could see all their markings. Could detect no Least Sandpiper. Full list: W., Calif. and Bonaparte Gulls; Grebe (Mr. Cowitow), Cormorants, Curlews (several), W. and Red-backed Sandpipers, Sparrow Hawk, Gt. Blue Heron (mets), Kildeer(1), Quail,
