"Left the canyon about 4 p.m., had supper at Folsom and spent the night at Davis. Aug. 7. Left Davis at 8 a.m. to avoid heat. Pleasant for about an hour then encountered a chilly wind which blew the rest of the way. Drove by way of Vacaville, Valley's, Rode's Ferry and home. List of birds seen at Cisco and Lake Tahoe: California Gulls, at Crystal Lake, Soda Springs, Donner Lake and Tahoe. American Merganser Cross-billed Duck with two half grown young at Young's Byron - Spotted Sandpiper at Cisco on Yuba River. M. Quail - a family group at Cisco on brushy hillside near pond. W. Belted Kingfisher - at Cisco on Yuba River. Modoc Woodpecker - bet. Lakeide and Nigers. Willow (?) Woodpecker - at Cisco. N. White-headed Woodpecker - " " Sycara Red-breasted Sapsucker - near Lakeside Northern Pileated Woodpecker - at Fallen Leaf Lake - has seen jr. Automobile. Red-shafted Flicker - heard once. Pacific Nightbank - at Cisco and Lakeside. Seen flying in daytime at Lakeside, not landing but flying directly southward. Attracted by the call which was repeated often. Calliope Hummingbird - at Cisco Black Phoebe! at Cisco on the Yuba River. Olive-sided Flycatcher at Cisco and Lakeside
