1 Western, several Eared and Pied-billed Grebes, 2 Brown Pelicans 1 Great Blue Heron, 1 Yellowlegs, several Killdeer, and 20-30 Marbled Godwits, beside innumerable gulls. Spent the night at Santa Cruz. Jan.2. Drove up to Boulder Creek. Cold; frosty. Fog just clearing over or clouds tops of mountains. Picked out 7 fruit trees. Saw Spotted & Brown Tortoise, Gambel and Golden-crowned Sparrows, Steller Jay, Junco's. Price Sisters' Willow Goldfinch, Western Winter Wren, Wren-Tit, Ruby-crowned Knight, Chickadees, and heard Creeper. Many robins in orchards near Redwood Rest. Lunch at San Jose. Reached home about 4 p.m. Drove 1700 miles. List of birds seen on Trip: Dec.23 to Jan.2. W.Grebe, Moss Landing Eared Grebe .. .. Pied-billed Grebe .. ..
