with shore trending west I judge we are at Cape North, or near it. A number of bear tracks, but no bears. I am becoming concerned about our pemmican supply. If we do not find game soon the best I can do is to reach L'Insley Land and possibly explore a little of its western coast. Our dogs are tired and very poor. We are about 465 miles from Etah, an average of 17.3 miles a day. I'm afraid I shall send the boys back into the litter to find something, even snow-birds will be acceptable. I must know if I can defend upon this country for any time at all. The land all about here is so low that at times we do not know if we are on land or ice. Indeed judge it to be a fine crazy country for caribou that show just mush - open or bare, offering no protection against wolves.
