as to have def. ciliate looks, this growth less than 1/2 in high. Cules to 2 1/2 in. Low 4mm wide lower sheath v low hairy upper quite glabrous. Pedicels 1/8 in or less, scabrous, very slender but (a.v.s.) erect. Spikelets 3-5cm overall, lemma with mid-nerv strong, the next pair very weak, the next pair along the outside pairs are weak, lemma scabrous on the 3 strong nerva but not with "closely appressed hair on tala" (BVH) or "evenly scabrous-pubescen on tala" (G). Lemma tapers to very narrow point with awn springing from as near the tip that it has no chance to be ciliate. Palea nearly as long as lemma, scabrous on edges but not ciliate. Lower glume 1-nerved, upper glume 3-nerved. Ligule short (less than 1mm.) truncate v sometimes dentieulate. [See 8-28-34] 5-18-31 Trifolium montanum L. Cote I 347, Bon 80 F9 Glim. Road to Val Mont. Only one yet seen. Very like all Cote. Pubescence trifle crisped, close, makes upper parts almost hairy. Flo each with very small bract at base, pedicels (if such) very short.
