Fr. 8-10mm long, obovate, pubescent with 3 or (usually) 4 def. ridges, shell thick & hard. Lvs. def. stiff pubescent beneath (R.T.S) 4-29-36 Clematis Vitalba L. Coote F 36, Box 4, B&N 3, B.M.B.C.P 278. All fr. & lioni. Ident. by climbing st. & pubescent receptacle. Awns 1/2-2in long. Each carpel on very short but def. stalk which issues from cuplike depression on receptacle and ends in cuplike depression in carpel. 4-29-37 Wisteria Cult. Val-Mont. Fls white, 2 an overall, --- standard 22mm wide, on pedicels 1-2 cm. Calyx grayish white, def. pubescent. Pedicels softly pubescent. Raceme 12in long overall, the lower part bearing 7 alt. lvs of which the upper 2 subtend fls. Fl.-bearing part of raceme 9in long. Lfts 11 or (usually) 3. (No lvs except those on raceme col. lfts now very young) appressed silky pubescent. Note: in front face left one subulate stipule like appendage. Fl. fragrant.
