young branch but poorly terminated in anthecis. Fr 1-5 on short (5mm or less) pedicels at left of peduncle. Pedicels as thick as peduncles. Fr adaxial, oval, ½ in long, bright red, apex showing a small disk overlapping petal edges by 4 tiny calyx teeth. Stigma sessile (almost) oblique or obscurely 2-lobed. Seed 1, almost as large as drupe with a flat cord lying in shallow groove along one side from top to bottom. Young fl buds show ovule stalks but no pedicules. Calyx tube (outside of ovary) pubescent with brown appressed hairs. Petals 4 now (in bud) green outside, purple inside with sharp inflexed tips. Petal about 2mm overall. Disk contracts with reflexed parts into oblique lamb-like stigma into 3 or parts. Considered prob. of Cofrosoma. B.MJ CP 71/2 Overall no fresh strong clove odor, not esp "fetid" (See 5-7-31) = Cyprinus alpinus L. Coste I 303, BM 71 4-28-31 [Laburnum alpinum Luseb. B.MJ CP 419] Tree just east of Dr. Po garage Val-Mont. Very young tws & last season's tws. Would be thought Laburnum except that B.MJ CP 419 and Coste I 303 say "no stipules". These tws (hardly out of bud) have awl-shaped stipules to 1/3 in. long, sparsely pubescent esp towards tip. Its silky puberuledges slightly hairy on mid-rib beneath, other- wise glabrous. Twfs to 1/2 in, silvery green & albid veins (at ts). Pods 1-1½ in, upper surface thin, pos. slightly winged. Seeds 1-3, 4.5 mm longest dimension.
