Cat # 551, I 17, BM CP 109 = Elphimenus — Hunt Bx 353 FL Vermifage. 8-20-31 Amaranthus retroflexus L (see 7-19-31) I Hopf. Slim westward, perhaps on upper part of 2nd sawmill (not locus) 7-19-31) St. Covered with short, articulate—curly hairs in pale beneath pointed at base, 8 those with short mucronate apex. Infl of thick compound spikes, 5 cm long in axils, terminal one similar 7 cm long. Bracts awl-pointed longer than perianth, thin & white silvery except the broadish, rounded green mid rib; 4-5 mm long. Perianth segs linear spicate, 3 mm x 1 mm, blunt at tip but slightly notched with minute mucron in sinus, white except for green midrib which does not reach to apex. Capsule olate than perianth, wrinkled above, 3-pointed, dehiscant. Stems & perianth divisors 5. Low alina & quite glabrous, veins strongly marked beneath and (20x) with white deposit showing in broken lines under skin.
