6-19-31? Dianthus Carlinsianorum L. Cote I 191,
Bon 47 = D. c — L. BM CP. 263 FL Montana via
Dr. Trueman. Fls &b only. Sts 3-9 in high, rather
obscurely 4-sided. Lvs 2-4 pair, the upper
pair sometimes very close under fl-head.
Lvs linear, acute shorter (usually multidentate)
than internode, rather glaucous, the longest
pair 3cm x 3-4mm, single-edged, with a
narrow yellowish-white margin at base
which makes a line extending down
into sheath. Sheaths 6-10 mm long & about
4 times as long as wide. Fls almost sessile in
heads of 3-6 (some often undeveloped). Scales
straw colored & straw consistency, slightly ob-
rotate about 9 x 4mm abruptly terminating in sharp
point of about 1.5mm midway on calyx. Scales
have nervo extending from point maybe
more to base, but edges of scale thin v
nervules. These scales seem 3-5 free each
fl and in addition there seems to be a
pair exactly similar under the fl-head &
under each group of fls in the head. Calyx
about 13 mm high with many nerves, very
reddish Corda 15 mm diam. Petals more
less magenta with somewhat darker lines v
hair toward base of blade. Anthers fertile.
