Close inspection of many plants 7-28 and again 7-28 revealed no sign of flowering. Today's search brought to light only this bit of evidence. Carex gynocrates Wahlenk. G 222, BvB I 361 ?spikes in which fr. unripe or not forming. Stolons; culms (2 in high), low; the solitary terminal ? spike; stigmata 2. bear no doubt as to identity. Perigynia like itl (G); not like itl (BvB) Near head of "long pool" at beginning of scale. 917 ?Juncus stygius L. var. americanus Buchenau G 278 inc. in fr.—L. BvBI 475 F2. with abov. Ident almost sure. Queirled only because the very slender lf-blades are certainly nodulous if not septate (this would agree with BvB throst with G); stem, this looking naked above the middle has as inconspicuous acicular lf (about 1/4 in long) within about 1 3/4 in of base of infl.; bract about as long as infl. (as desc G, not exceeding flo òr desce. will BvB), Lvs not channelled at least at lvs seem rather to be relatively flat. Steml. Heads usually 1 (one case 2), fleshy 1-3.
