Flo edd fr. Culms to 30 in., stiff, rough esp. tex- infl uppermost fl. Panicle contracted making somewhat effect of C. Picheringii (W.B. Panicled) similarish in effect, this glumes (20x) also touches purple. Effects flesh color with the green branch ex shining through). The stictal awn is straight when fl is delected but bends slightly on drying, as long as lemma. Callus hairs fully 2/3-3/4 as long as lemma and not interrupted at back of lemma (as in C.P.) C. lacustris Nash B & B 1208 is a possibility. Lvs def. rough on upper surface with prominent veins; less rough beneath. Blades 2-3 mm wide, flat when collected, becoming somewhat invol. later. Epilelets 3mm long. Lemma scabrous. R.B.K does not know whether "culms stiffed". [cfh with C.P.] 8-14-39 from marsh across river from Dump. Pot. Lvs narrower than C.P. Looks infl very sim- ilar but differences of fl. very definite as desc above [cfol with C.P.] 8-19-39 and C. canadensis from near D.P. Cat. Pot. It is (a) a queer C. or (b) X bet the two. Having contracted panicle stictal awn (this not robust), rough lemma of C.P. and hairs & color impl.] C.E.
