Muhlenbergia racemosa BSP G127, B/B1/86 Bailey, & 87377 ?? Carex scirpoïdes Schkuhr G223 = C. interior, Fr. not ripening (cone badly infested with smut) so ident impors. Heads elb. accessible Position of fls. not discoverable. Stigmas 2. One ripe fr. found. Using G's key assuming of fls borne at base or scattered (this seems more likely v besides sp. in the 'fls at top' group seems likely to fit the case) we are led to C. scirpoïdes Schkuhr G223 Perigynia with thin margins, strongly three, horizontally spreading or reflexed, spikes 2-several, perigynia broadest at base though beaked more than 1/2 as broad as long (i.e. somewhat more than 1.5 mm wide x 3 mm long), dark brown; beak not 'nearly equaling body'. Plant slender; infl 1 cm long, flo 1-3mm wide (beaks seem to vary from 'blunt' to least acute). N.B. No bracts visible v underfl part less spikes so close together that at first culms seems to have one terminal spike only. Lvs channeled not flat. Lvs often much slender than culm. Note method of growth as tho this years culms v sterile shoots came from a point (about 1 inch) above
