?? Carex scirpoïdes Schkuhr G223 = C. interior,
Fr. not ripening (cone badly infested with smut) so
ident impors. Heads elb. accessible Position of fls.
not discoverable. Stigmas 2.
One ripe fr. found. Using G's key assuming
of fls borne at base or scattered (this seems more likely v
besides sp. in the 'fls at top' group seems likely to
fit the case) we are led to C. scirpoïdes Schkuhr G223
Perigynia with thin margins, strongly three, horizontally
spreading or reflexed, spikes 2-several, perigynia broadest
at base though beaked more than 1/2 as broad as long
(i.e. somewhat more than 1.5 mm wide x 3 mm long),
dark brown; beak not 'nearly equaling body'.
Plant slender; infl 1 cm long, flo 1-3mm wide (beaks
seem to vary from 'blunt' to least acute). N.B. No
bracts visible v underfl part less spikes so close
together that at first culms seems to have one terminal
spike only. Lvs channeled not flat. Lvs often much
slender than culm.
