Transcription
at the apex, 1-nerved, the lower narrowed
somewhat into petioles. Fls. solitary in axils
upper lvs. Calyx with 4 deep lanceolate acute
lobes. Corolla with 4 rounded almost entire
lobes. Stamens 4, inserted at sinuses of corolla.
Ovary almond shaped, flattened. Style none. Stigma
2-cleft. No signs of spurs or finbricate crown etc.
Stamens with no peculiarities; anthers (at
this stage) more than twice the length of flat
filaments. St. internodes very short lvs. being
close together with shallow, narrow groove
[?] down each side from edges? lvs. Calyx in
bud with lobes upright, flattened, 2 lobes
with faces together, the other 2 (a trifle longer
& perhaps narrower) each folded on mid.
rib over the edges; the inner 2 [See 7-19, v
8-19-29 (Gentiana mesophila Holm G), BvB III?]
7-10-29 Gentianaceae.
Very early bud, general locus above. 2 in high. Differs
from above in darker color; internodes longer; St.
wing-4-angled; lvs. obovate-lanceolate, several nerves
from base. Fls mostly 5-memous. Corolla lobes with
signs of finbricate crown at base of lobes. Stamens
much smaller than in above. Calyx lobes
spreading in bud, not flattened as in above.
Prob. Gentiana Acanrella L var acuta Needer.
G 657 = G. acuta Michx BvB III? [7-17-29 same
locus.
