No fl or fr. Sp. Bk P.R. northw. Bark reddish-bro.
just appearing. Might be either C. Ammonum,
Willd or C. stolonifera Michx (the only 2 reported
from N'fld). [1939 C. Stolonifera very frequent in this
region. C Ammonum never found by R.B.T.]

foss. S. balsamifera Barratt G324 = S. populifolia
Anders. BuBI596 but outline of young br. is
oblong-olate, sharply acute at apex tapering
to base, St. reddish brown (a little browner than
the Cornus (above). Young br thin v reddish, low
serrate(or crenate) with incurving gland-tipped
teth. Stipules small, obov orate glandular
on margins. Base of young twig has copious
long white hairs. Thigs upper side of petioles
white hairy but even very young br.glabrous
