Lvs 2 x 3\frac{1}{4} in, oblong, tapered or rounded at base. Near base often in axils sub- merged frs are slender, very short, very leafy branches whose lvs are similar to those on stem but smaller & crispier. Peduncle shorter than st. Immature fls 3mm. Spikes less than 2\frac{1}{2} cm. P. heterophyllus Schreb forma myriophyllo- phyllus Moland G74 seems only possibility [P. gramineus = Pheterophyllum Schreb. G73, BvBJ 78 says M.L.
