its branches 1/2 in or less, whorled v spikelet bearing to base or almost. White looking in fl. Spikelet 3mm long, lemma 1mm v palea fully 1/2 as long (armed). Lemma minutely toothed at apex [crossed out] at tips of nerves; not awned. Lvs 3 mm wide. Looks more like ill D A. canina L. Bv BI 265 than any J oties ilia. This has prob. been seen v dispersed previously this summer. [Note on 10-8-29 from M.L.F.: #46 J 7-27-29 is A. alba L. var vulgaris Thunb. G132.] # 80 8-31-29 Potamogeton natans L. G 72, Bv BI 76 Fl v very young fr. Highlands Pond. # 81 8-31-29 Potamogeton Unisex fr. Highlands Lake above pond with Chara. Using Biokey: (a) 2 sorts of lvs, (b) submerged lvs 12-14 mm (i.e. more than 2mm), (c) not "broad coarsely reticulate each side & mid-rib" vs also more than 6 mm; (f) floating lvs tapering at base, not heart shaped, (g) floating lvs 9-12 nerved, not 30-50 nerved, (h) fr. not yet mature fully 3mm long, (i) spikes about 2 cm long. Foliage bright green hence might be P. hetero- palylus Schreb G73, Bv BI 78. But in fairly ad- vanced state 4 carpels seem to be maturing. Floating lvs (J which there are few) not like
