Bark smooth, gun-metal color; Joe calls it "Iron-wood". Lvs oblong or elliptic, acute or abruptly acuminate at apex, rounded or a trifle narrowed at base. Dark green shining & smooth above; glaucous beneath with few hairs along mid-rib. Petioles young lvs. puberulent, as are turges (at least one) young lf., with ferruginous hairs. Lvs vary from 1 3/4 x 9 1/16 ins. to 6 x 2 in. Crevs serrate with very low, distant, gland-tipped teeth much as desc. for B. discolor Muhl. G 325. Stipules semi-cordate, sharply gland-toothed, those at base of large lvs. fully 1 cm long and on distinct pedicels almost 2 mm long. (G) 8-19-29 Salix No flr fr.
