#66 8-9-29 Aster. Fl. Brought in by Charlie from near Camp F le P. suggests 8-5-29 #64 in general look. 1 ft high, 5-fl. St. smooth below & noticeably white spreading pubescent above, hardly if at all rough leafy to base. Lvs to 3 1/4 x 7/8 in, lanceolate (or widest above middle), acuminate, narrowed somewhat to sessile base. Smooth above & below, except rough on edges, entire or almost so. Involucre 1/4 in long, tips spreading in bud but less so in fl. Bracts more nearly same length than in #64 & tips linear, thickish, green, with no whitish border, ciliate & sparsely & finely hairy inside. Fl lilac, linaceous, say. 36. Achenes hairy. Fls solitary on peduncles (as usually but not always in #64) and peduncles of lower fls not as elongated as #64 when the terminal fl is open. Hence inflorescence in effect.
