Clockwise. Spines slightly brownish. Wings def.
longer than leaf. Calyx, peduncles v petioles
with few hairs (as hair veins of young lvs). Stipules
declinent. This fits modern in all forms. (Note
discrepancies bet. Bar. v Cato.) but wings longer
than leaf seems to put it in #839-40 Cato I 336
which Kn II 74 covers as M. luteipila Gaehtn
forme denticulata. But note peduncles much
shorter than lvs.
3-2-31 Medicago trunculata Gaehtn [crossed out]
#6 forme tribuloides Kn II 92 = M. tribuloides
Lamk Bar 119, Box 75 = M. tribuloides Dear Cato I
337 Fl v young fr. R?leithie slightly west of Portale
or bet Portale & Cas Catala'. Pod spirals counter-
clockwise. Peduncles shorter (often much shorter)
than lvs. Hence not M. littoralis. Pod with def. Coric,
(yors) not hooped spines. Fr. not advanced enough
to make distinctions as in Barcels bet M. trun-
culata Gaehtn & M. tribuloides Lamk but Kn seems
to suggest only the latter found in Balearics.
Fls sometimes 3. Fl about 6 mm overall. Terminal
lft .5+ by 15-mm. Note: general appearance much
like ?? Medicago Murex Wild var. sphaerocarpa
of 2-25-81 whose pod coils clockwise.
