parichly lob (See Box 175) are Carlina v attractyla - dismissed because of their pubescent achenes. Stamens are free v paprous hairs definitely forked their whole length (but prob not to be considered plumose) and united in ring at base. Papillae very pale tan, achene smooth, shining nerve?, oblong, flattened somewhat, about 5mm long x 2+ mm wide. Corolla purple. Bracts mbran less well by acuminate with sharp points, the inner less sharp v tinged purple. But no "little glands of brilliant yellow" (Box 177). Fl head about 3/4 in high by 1/4 in wide. (See 3-17-30 & 11-22-30 Q-13-30? Carlina lacunata L. Kn# 484, Box 273, Box 182. Back road to Palma. Dried plant but with perfect remains basal lobes of fl heads (very close to ground) others solitary on stems 8+ in high, some of these stems bearing just below fl head, others stems bearing fl heads. Involved leaf Scales bit. Flo seem to be tubular, lacerated at top. No achenes seen.
