July 13-1897 Boston Tuesday We arrive in Boston at 7 A.M. Having got out on the car I am in good hope to begin the day of preparation for our departure to Greenland. The first thing we did was to go to the Boston Navy yard to see our whole boat. The boat appears to be in splendid condition, while it is a whale boat 28 feet length yet it is of the narrow and pointed kind, good for sailing and rowing but hardly flat bottomed may I give us the required tonnage. However it may prove to do better than we expect. Try the gig whole boat of the Yankee or the Captains' boat. It was made in New York for Drury in Rhode Island. Made some suggestions for additional fittings and promised to see fit it on Thursday. Spent the balance of the day making personal purchases in the way of yarn, clothes and arrangements for our provisions. Stopping at the Parker house room no 410. Mary has outfit arrived.
