July 12-1897 Monday
Two P.M., trunk checked and I
am ready to depart from Washington for
Boston! At 4.20 I take the Penn. R.R.
train with a sleeper through without change
to Boston. Fare $12.25 and sleeper $3.00.
While my strength is not that of Sandow,
neither my courage that of Sheridan, nor
my knowledge that of Farragut yet I
will undertake the trip to Speedland
trusting to the knowledge of others and my
small good luck of the part. My
friends all wish me good luck and
a safe return.
Mr. White and I have a pleasant journey
to New York and at 10.30 P.M. we leave
the car and win New York city by night
around the Battery and up the East River
on the steamers which carry our train
to Harlem. There is nothing more impressive
than this ride around the big city to
show the great activities of man. At
11.30 we turn in.
