"[90]" day + [illegible] says that we had better sleep out here tonight. We have been over four in the march but I doubt whether we have averaged more than two miles an hour - This leaves ten miles, or five hours, to Malignate and I am ready to stop though we have no tank. [illegible] says that it will not blow or snow tonight. I wonder? He just now saw six seals on the ice from the place to which he climbed in the land and the two young men have gone hunting. Hope for success, since we have no meat for selers or dogs - Have had a little reasonably good going today. Does not seem to be getting worse anyhow + Magnus assumed for that it will improve - [illegible] is crowding over Jones now. We have fled the way more than half the time today. In an hour the two boys came back from their hunt with no seals, hence we have to content ourselves with tea, biscuit + a slice of chocolate each for dinner - clear sky at seven o'clock - 17 May. Thursday - B - calm - between 0° + 10° F, probably on 0° F; I think for my sleeping bag was well frosted by my breath last night - First night in 14
