years that I have slept out, I think that
the last previous time was on Mt Pele'
in 1903, when I suffered much more
from the cold than I did last night, in
that I was not at all cold but right, be-
ing much more comfortable than I
was in Magnus's igloo its night before.
Had coffee and biscuit for breakfast
and got away from camp at 7 o'clock - a
beautiful day. We headed up the little
bay and had come overland to Ma-
lignite, the wayfarers' hut opposite the
black headland called Sixteen Mile.
An easy ride + an interesting change in
the scenery. We came at a pretty good
pace and I need not have gotten off-
the kahmsoftik at all but I did get
off for the shortest part of the ascent
to the first divide - far that me to
get on again. This is the region where
snow is going too thick for riding on the
return. We crossed some old track.
Divide is 400-500 ft above sea.
Reached hut at 1:30 p. glad we did
not take the 6 1/2 hr ride yesterday morn-
ing. It would have been hard + the
tree wind had been the opening up of
the hush kinds, which later came
on account of drifted snow
of interior forest.
It was glad of my koolies
for 2 hrs this morning.
Cometly started night after a meal.
