with remaining appressed silkenness that contrasts with mid-rib silky (in ? C. a- mid-rib has only the usual appressed 2- forked hairs below Cornea); its limb has a similar loose silkiness (? C. a- has it to a con- siderably less degree), but a trifle less white beneath. Peduncles from terminal (in ? C. a- leafy shoots 40 in hair grown on each side of inf. Petals 5 x1.1 mm narrowly triangular, lie broadest at base with straight sides. see B.V.B). This fact o time of being (see Keeler "latest family to flower" points toward C.A.- Lvs cfd with C. florida, C. cincinnata, ? C. paniculata of Kilmerwood. Note: Stone of ? C. atropifera is very like desc (B.V.B) very def. "oblique & pointed at base with 8 distinct veins 3 meach face v on each edge ) rather than "ridge"s, and Stone flattened and higher than broad so that R.B.K. concludes that both these specimens may well be C. Ammonum 7-15-38 Prunus virginiana L.G 498; Hough 281 = Padus nana Roemer BVB II 329 Unique ft.1"t hole in old field across bridge. All the well known char- acteristics 7-15-38 Betula lutea Michx. L.G 334; BVI610 No Rnts. Ident by characteristic bark as below at H.H. across bridge at 12th St. dec 7-2-38
