(Also in D.C. occasional linear, 3mm long, appendages near proper place for stipules - probably does not bear on the question) Pedicels or pedicels with hairs appressed (O.c.- has pedicels with hairs spreading) Fr. to 2.2 cm long, softly & finely pubescent with short & long hairs. (O.c. has few long side hairs) 6-23-38 Dactylis glomerata L. G154; BvB12057, Fr. 6-24-38 Carex castanea Weltenb. G 246; BvBI 411 Fr. (ready to fall) South side of drive nearer to house than to road. Culms 3' high, now, reclining. All hairs lead to this v'dea. fit exactly except that its spike has peduncle of 1.5-2.5 cm (G says "very short peduncle"; BvB "short-stalked." Short sheaths (no blades) at base culm purplish-brown (BvB says "culm ---- reddish purple at base"). Ill(G) perfect. Scales, which persist even fr. falls, minutely ciliate on edge (perhaps this is what BvB means by "lacerate".) Perigynia 5mm long of which about 2mm is beak. Lvs on sterile shoots to 6mm.
