6-14-38 Festuca nutans Spreng G. 162 2 F. — wild BvBI 272 (See Francis 218) Bud. Woods east of house. Only one spec. seen. Spikelet 5 mm., scales somewhat shorter than dese. C and Bv/B. Very like ill(Bv/B.) [7-10-38 Fz. Woods south of drive. Nodes not black? Bv/B says they are black. 6-14-38 Carex pennsylvanica Lam G 236; BvBI 391 (See Francis 307-8) Adv. f2. Woods east of house. Blended stems scaly bracted (G 211). Duff like upper part ill (G), there being more remote & spikes with leafy bract. (in the 4 culms studied) Perigynia reddish brown at top, whitish v thickened at base. Only 1 or 2 fr. maturing in each spike. 6-14-38 Polygonum panicifolium Willd G 538; BvBI 452 F2 Woods east of house. 6-15-38 Ulmus. No fl. fr. Tree across rd just opp. Mrs. Keen's. Col. to get with spec. [6-12 &c. Twigs v buds the same. I do differ in that base is decidedly unequal (mid-rib naked on one side 5-10 mm.); somewhat smoother, in look, above but with the same enlarged basal hairs and perhaps softer to touch beneath. [7-15-38 No fl. fr. Mill River, Mass. Clear form of U. americana.
