6-14-38 affect color of H. benedicti which is a grayer green than above and with a sort of sheen (not really glaucous. 6-14-38 ? Fraxinus americana L. G 650; BvBII 225- Hough 390 No fls fr. Lfts parted pale & soft- ly pubescent beneath, almost entire. Young growth almost glabrous but on newest part, as m peticles & rachis there are short, soft, spreading hairs (some parts might be called "velvety". Pubescent as for F. pennsylvanica (G)). Still from locus frequency R.B.H. thinks this prob. F. a -. Lfts rounded rather than narrowed at base BvBII 281 6-14-38? Carya ovata K. Koch G 331: Hicoria — Britton, Hough 58. Young trees in woods east house. Lfts 5. Pctioles with some stellate pubescence & some sessile glands. Lvs beneath with a sparse almost pubescence (some hairs, esp. on veins, arranged stellately) and fine brown dots (glands?). Lvs crushed not fragrant. Prob. not a 5-fliolate C. alba. N.B.: C. glabra & C. microcarpa are likely to have 2 lfts. 6-14-38 Poa compressa L. G 155; BvBI 359; Francis 197 light color & very base of blade striking (Francis). Culm very slender & decidedly flattened. Woods east house.
