Achenes 3.5 mm with many roughened rib, truncate tapering to an acuminate base. Pappus white & many slender bristles (7-8mm long), scabrous above the wooly mat-like center plume (which gives to each achene the effect of a daisy-like effect i.e. having a center v. raro. 5-6-39 ?? Orthocarpus densiflorus Bentle var gracilis Keck N 482 See O.d - Bentle J 943 FL. With above Poor spec (whose main at. bitter ?) at 2 1/2 in] with 2 branchlets about 1 in long. Lvoon main at. mostly destroyed, the only complete one (near base) is "linear-lanceolate, attenuate, entire" (M), 10mm long & others too suggest they are similar. Lvoon branchlets 3-5 mm long & about as broad, the lower ones 3-4-toothed at broadened apex, the upper ones with progressively deeper divisions & narrower lateral lobes (in one case might be called "filiform") Bracts 3-lobed 4mm long. Corolla 12mm long & which purple, galea (def. tapering to tip) 5 mm, lower lip white, with yellow at base of keel where purple dots show conspicuously. Teeth white (with purple center), 1.5 mm reaching practically to tip ? galea. Stigma shows beyond tip of galea.
