Diff in evident: achene brown (instead of black), thicker & not narrowed towards lip. Pappus strongly persistent (instead of all too readily deciduous) & makes head & fruit def light brown (instead of silvery white). To depth 2 notch in paleae U.l.- is a triple shorter [T] only but looks shorter because the head & paleae are less delicately slender than in U. l.— Ave overall about 5mm.; body of palea (w/ tips of teeth) about 7 mm. (So probably var. Clevelandii). Beets rounded on back so that invol more corrugated (vertically) while U.l. in- volvecre is smooth.
