4-8-39 Keel non-ciliate. But note pedicels at s. not slender v 3mm at most. (Miskey suggests longer but J. says "3-4 mm") 4-8-39 Celycoseris Wrightii Gray J1008; M593 Fl.v very young fl. Ocotillo. Exactly cedere. (See Rafinesque neptiflora and for similarity of invol.) 4-8-39 Monoptilon bellioides Hall J1044; M527 FL. Ocotillo Adese vill. Difficult to trace with key because to Aster Tribe because: (1) invol. bracts (perhaps "well indicated" when plant is fresh) seem to be arranged in 2 series, the inner erect, the out spreading somewhat to form a cuplike outer involucere (this after specimen 3 days old) & the pappus consisting of about 5-7 bristles v a much shorter ring (crown?) of bristles or fimbriate scales. Does not easily suggest Aster Tribe. No doubt J ident. 4-8-39 Chaenactis carphoclina Gray var. attenuata Jones J1124; M567 Fl.of fl. Ocotillo. Setaceous tips to the invol bracts esp. def in later stages. Ann-like bracts of receptacle (J) makes ident. sure. 4-8-39 Palafoxia linearis Lag J1127; M563 Fl.of fl. Ocotillo. Heads 2cm. high. Achenes 1cm.
