branches ascending. St. lvs v calyx hispid with suberulate based tubercles where other lvs hirsute. Racemes, now, to 8 cm. Corollas to 8 mm wide. Calyx 3mm long. Consimilar nutlets 1mm long, the odd nutlet 1.5 mm. Nutlets not at all winged (indeed margins are more rounded than "acute" (M)). Otherwise nutlets as disc. (If using key we try F.F."nutlets homomorphic or practically", which would be reasonable guess, the best fit is C. barbigerus whose calyx v nutlets are larger than ours v in which acc. to M) "spikes -- becoming elongated, the flrst length remote v less second" which won't do at all for our dense v very secund spikes. Calyx lobes "narrowly linear" lvs narrow linear or linear-lanceolate. Plant greyish green ("cinereous"?). 4-8-39 Cleomethus perplexans Trelease M 302 See C. Greggii Gray var. perplexans Jepss. J623 F lv young fr. Banner. Lvs thick v stiff. Many very def concave above. Mostly coarsely velvety hirsute but sometimes entire. 15-20mm x 7-15mm (only a few smaller). But thorns x.s. this "slmt" do not look "slender". 4-8-39 Lupinus formosus Greene J 529; M 251 Bud (falls before fully opening in house but color (lilac) showing w/gle prot full sized or almost so) Banner. Ovaries 7. Flowers das buds on upper part fr raceme) "somewhat whorled" Bracts subulate, silky, 15mm long, rather conspicuous among the buds v seem inclined to persist, too?
