"long" (G), dead-olive green or benomile (certainly not "almost white" as desc. for S. californicus M) Bristles flattened but whitish, v downwardly reflexed. (not "red v short hairy or plumose" as desc. for S.califor nicus). Achenes minutely roughened (20x), erect 1-2.5 cm. Infl. about half-way set T=47 v 148(J) [6-29-39 with S. Olneyi; some styles 3-cleft, others 2-cleft. Scales "red-dotted" (G). 6-17-39 Juncus rugulosus Engelm. T 205; M 82 F2. Sorrento Rd, in hills of northern part. St v lvs "minute- ly transverse-rugose" (20x) as desc. (M) v ill(T). Infl. much as in Ethl Fig 230(J). Seeds about .6mm long with longitudinally transverse lines (20x). Perianths v capsules now pinkish brown, v the slender achymati short pointed capsule longer than perianths 6-17-39 Cuscuta californica Choisy J 781; M 385 F1 Early. Sorrento Rd in hills of northern stretch. (On plant which may be an Eriogonum varius quite un- guessable). Very like ill (M), Fl .5mm long not count- ing reflexed corolla lobes or 5mm if discounted. Every lobe as though capsule would not be ovate to conic. Calyx translucent. Scales mere ridges as desc. (J) [7-28-39] F1 Sorrento Rd or Eriogonum fasciculatum v Artemisia dracunculoides. Ovary def. flattened on top with orange-colored base. Anthers conspicuous because of v- flexed lobes of corolla. Conf with C. subinclusa 8-4-39. 6-17-39 Melilotus alba Desv. J 534; M 252; GJ10; B.M.JEP.40x. Fl. Sorrento Rd, stretch along RR.
