6-17-39 often leadish - purplish in color (glaucous insect, this the bloom does not rub off). Sts to fly up to infl. Infl more open, branches longer (some to 6 in) than desc seem to indicate. Fruiting sepals (often) reddish, triangular, 3mm long, more or less erose towards the base. No other species in M seems remotely possible. 6-17-39 Pieris echiiidea L. J 995; M 588; G 864. Fly young fr. Sorrento Rd. stretch along R.R. (known in Majorca). Note conspicuous white tubercles on lvs. Rays pale than dandelion-yellow. Stigmas greenish-leaf color. 6-17-39 Scirpus campestris Britt J 155; S.—Brittonae paludosus Fernald G 193; S. paludosus A. Nele M 66; Bv B. F2 with Anemopsis. Spikelets 2.5cm long. Achenes 3 x 2.2mm. 6-17-39 ? Scirpus aenetus Muhl. J/53; M 66 = S. occidentalis Chase G. 192 (acc to M.). Fly fls. Near above. (See 28- 39 possibly same species). Greatest difficulty evident is the 3-cleft style (Sapee studied) (M vs Tany 2-cleft; G, says only "achene biconvex"). Achenes flat on one side, convex but tending toward triangular on the other. Sts. terete (slightly flattened but not at all angular). Spikelets 12mm long. Achenes "not 2mm wide" (M) and 2.2mm
