See 8-8-39 as poss. this being var. rigida: var nigata 6-14-39 Corethrogyne filaginifolia Nutt var J 1042; M 527 Fl v young fr. Slopes above Sunset Cliffs (Point Loma). Genus perfectly desc. [T] & [M.] w this "strictly erect" only poss species. Of the 3 vars desc. for S.D. none fits our plant exactly. Tomentum obvi- ous on st & lvs almost to top and (20x) clear to top. Traces only of tomentum on invol (20x). Invol with def. stalked glands (20x) but hard to judge whether (M.) would call stalks "long" or "short." Tips of bracts def. spreading-sceneved. Invol. of opened bracts 8 mm or poss 9 mm [certainly not more than 10 mm]. Plants col. 4.5 dm. (R.B.K. thinks others were taller) Lvs all entire; lower lvs to 5-9 mm wide, upper ones narrow. Perhaps best guess is var. in- cana Carby M 528: var pacifica Hall J 1043 x if not then var nigata Gray M 528 (See var rigida Gray J 1043) [See 7-28-39 Fl v young fr. var linifolia Hall] [Spec. from Crown Point shortly after 6-14 seemed very like those from Point Loma on 6-14] 6-14-39 Marrubium vulgare L.
