6-6-39 cm tall with many scales surrounding stuff of very long-woolly linear lvs (effect very like lil #262 in M). Needs certainly "dull brown punctata". 6-7-39 Eriogonum fasciculatum Benth var foliolosum, Stokes J 813; M/22 Pl. Lake Hodges let. Escondido and Rancho Santa Fl. Exactly as desc. Lvs, if flat, would be narrowly oblanceolate. 6-7-39 Chaenactis artemisiaefolia Gray J 1123; MS 67 F 84 fl. Near above in same region botanized 3-23-39 (doubtless same species) 6-11-39 Eleocharis Fl. La-Jolla at water plant in park-way along shore let. Casas de Maria on rabbit hole in well. Style 3-cleft (-in several heads carefully examined). Achene lobes so short would develop "trigonus". Style base now "manifestly distinct from apex achene". Rootstock seems to be creeping with several sts arising from same point. Culms 8-18 in, very lax & weak, distinctly flattened (1 mm x 1/2 mm). Basal sheath dark-red-purple at base, hardly oblique orifice (except as mode to loose by a definite tort on one side). Spiklets now 6-10 mm long. Scales oblong with apex rounded (when fresh), dark purple with green mid rib (which turns straw color)
