5-20-39 Viola purpurea Tell T645; M318 FL Palomar Obs Ovaries only slightly hairy. Plant very like ill (T). (Only other person (M) would be V. lobata Benths var. integrifolia Wats but rootstock as desc (M) is at - marked below lefty summit" (T) rules this out.) Spurs very short. 5-20-39 Vicia californica Greene T582; M272 FL at young jr. Palomar Obs. Corolla only 14-16 mm hence one suspects V. villosa Roth but (see G526; B.M.G.C.P.392) one plant not "many-fl" (fls 4-6, via one seen? ) not resembling V. Calcea; and "limb of standard" not "a half or less as long as claw" (limb almost twice as long as claw). St. 4-angled v not very marked gig. gag (see M.v.T for V.americana Mull) but plant weak. Hrd def villous pubescent (as V.c - is desc.) v three plants collected at ± 6000 ft. alt. Lvs fairly firm but hardly "subcoriaceous" (M); the truncate ones denticulate at apex as desc (T). Corolla whitish, tinged more or less with lavender-purple. Pods glabrous. ? 5-20-39 Lupinus ex cubitus Jones T532; M 252 FL Palomar Obs. (R.B.K. does not know whether this the same as L seen along route which Mr. Covell called "a variety L. albifrons"). Our plant answers better to keys v desc of L. ex cubitus. Keel "broad, not narrowed"
