5-10-39 Melica imperfecta, Trinit. 48; M 52. Fr. Poway Grade. Spikelts not more than 4 mm., with one perfect fl.? The rudiment oblong, 2mm., white, appres- sed to palea v conspicuous when fl. dissearticulates (above glumes). Glumes, lemma & palea purple with scarious margin tawny, giving infla variegat- ed appearance. 5-10-39 ?? Festuca octoflora Walt J 82; M 56; G 161; Bul. 772 p. 30. Fr. Poway Grade. (since lemmas pubescens pubo var. hirtella Piper, (see T.V.M.) to 6 cm high; sheathed with many slender sts. Infl about 1.5cm, a somewhat 1-sided raceme. (suggestive) Tribe Horde- ae but spikelts not sterile.) See G. "panicle --- us- ually reduced to a more or less second raceme" which fits ours plant nicely. Rachilla disarticulating bet. flts so that each flt falls with the joint next above it attached as ill Bul. 772. (lowest flt into rachilla joint next above remains on plant with the glumes, after all other flts have fallen. Lemmas about 4-4.5mm. overall, which 1-1.5mm is awn. Ill. (Bul 776) good except our plants much shorter. R.B.F. considers this ident very probable 228 = B. filifolia wats. var Orcuttii Jepson T 5-14-39 Brodiaea Orcuttii Baker M 90; (A) F 8 Kearny Mesa.
