5-10-39 Phacelia grandiflora Gray J 818; M 408 Flv adv fr. Poway Grade. Very conspicuous in recently burnt place. Exactly as desc. except corolla blue when first opened, turning lilac. Fls 18 mm long overall. Corolla 3 cm wide. 5-10-39 Silene laciniata Cav. J 365; M 167 Fl Poway Grade. To 2 ½ ft high. Sts v calices very glandular. Petals bright red (red f Am. flag, no trace of magenta or what R.B.K. calls "crimson"), such as B.M. & P. 367 calls "scarlet" in desc. Lycopis chalconica. Corolla, when disgag first open 1.5 cm but later spreads to 2 cm. Petals sometimes more than 4 cleft. Calyx erect. Fls looks very much like ill (T) of S. californica but range as well as height are against this Mr. Corell 5-20-39 verified ident from spec observed along road, 6-25-39 Flv nurise fr. Corrivo Rd hill in northern part. Capsule not exactly 5-10-39 Malacothrix Clevelandii Gray J 1002; M 591 Fl v fr. Poway Grade. Exactly as desc except heads not "nod ding in the bud" as desc for genus. M 5890 590 and J 981 v 1001 5-10-39 ? Denthena bistorta Nutt J 685; D.- Noole M 342. Flsfs. Poway. By leaf desc this would be O. micrantha since petals 4 mm (near tip) at & faded when stud- ed but observed to be small when collected). But habit & general effect very like O. J 5-1-39 whose-
